General Dempsey is being considered for the second term as Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Syria Conflict

The most important Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dempsey has mentioned and outlined the possible harms and losses that could confront US economically.

Currently US has ruled out its military actions in Syria.

Currently US is delivering humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees and all the non-lethal help is being carried out.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dempsey has clearly stated that any military action in Syria would result in a serious War and its consequences would be unbearable.

However Dempsey has outlined some of the suggestions including limited strikes and creating no fly zones that Washington can work on.

General Dempsey Suggestions

Top Five Suggestions made By Dempsey are outlined below:
  •      Doing limited strikes
  • ·         Controlling Chemical arms in Damascus
  • ·         Assisting  and training the opposition
  • ·         Creating no fly zones
  • ·         Creating buffer zones

According to Dempsey the last option would charge US about $500m a year whereas all the remaining would cost $1bn a month.

"We have learned from the past 10 years, however, that it is not enough to simply alter the balance of military power without careful consideration of what is necessary in order to preserve a functioning state," he said.

According to General Dempsey the outlined options however will strengthen the opposition  and are enough options putting pressure on President Bashar al-Assad. He also advised that US would have to be very careful while taking military actions in Syria as we have learnt from past ten years in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to UN, more than 1.7 million people have been forced to seek shelter in neighbouring countries and more than 90 thousands have been killed since 2011.
