Attack
The attack in Dera
Ismail Khan which is situated in KPK, took place at midnight at
about 15.00 GMT.
The militants
attackt the jail with grenades and muchine guns. The attack was started with
huge explosions.
According to the
residents of the area, the first explosion was so loud that it rattled the
nearby houses.
At around 70
attackers were in police uniform , determined to free their fellows. The
attackers also used the loud hailers and calling particular prisoner names. The
attackers were chanting “God is great” and “long live the Taliban,” authorities
said.
Escaped- Dera Ismail Khan Prison’s Escaped Prisoners
According to officials , around 250 prisoners have
been freed during the attack. The fleed prisoners also include Waleed Akbar,
who is the main suspect in attacks on Shia mourns during the month of Moharram.
According to officials at around 14 prisoners were
re-arrested . For the time being curfew has now been made to arrest the fleed
prisoners, but according to the correspondents this seems to be the difficult
task as all of them have moved to tribal areas.
Local Taliban commanders, Haji Ilyas and Abdul Hakim
are also included in the fleed prisoners.
According to officials , at around 12 people have
been killed including 6 senior officers . The gun battled continued for 3-4
hours between police and taliban.
Attacks Claimed By Taliban
Shahidullah Shaid who is currently Pakistan Taliban
spokesman has confessed the responsibility of the attacks on the jail.
According to him , they have released around 300 prisoners during the attack.
The
attack left prison walls partially destroyed, as Shahzeb Jillani reports
Accoring
to Ktherine Houred, who told the BBC,” it had been a very sophisticated attack
- they blew the electricity line, they breached the walls and they set ambushes
for reinforcements.”
According to officials , around 14 explosive devices have now
been defused that were planted in the jail premises.
Mushtaq Jadoon who is civil commissioner, said “30 hardened
militants jailed for their involvement in major attacks or suicide bombings
were among those who escaped.”
The police administration have been informed by the attacks by
the intelligence agencies but the police said that it had not expected the
attacks to occurs so soon.
The
DI Khan’s prison had prisoners belonging to Taliban group and other militants
group involving in serious attacks in the country.
According
to officials , the prison’s building is about 100 years old not re-constructed
for high profile prisoners.
But
whatever the reasons stated, authorities have to face the questions regarding
the prisoner’s escape as this attack was not different than the attack that
took place in DI Khan before.
